Chocolate Fest X
Delectable treats and entertaining feats thrill at the annual summer fundraiser
Published On: October 12, 2010
For the recipe of a successful fundraiser, take one part spectacular late summer evening and add about 600 enthusiastic revelers. Fold in a smorgasbord of delectable chocolate creations and a bevy of intoxicating libations. Stir with rousing live performances and the pulse-pounding spins of DJ Fierce until the crowd is whipped into a partying frenzy and more than $50,000 is raised.
Host Craig Scherman’s annual celebratory concoction, Chocolate Fest X, combines all of these ingredients to successfully raise money for the Louisville AIDs Walk. Since 1993, the Louisville AIDS Walk has supported programs serving thousands of people in the Louisville and southern Indiana. Funds raised through the walk or other events around the annual event improve the quality of life for individuals affected by the HIV virus. The Walk is made possible each year by the efforts of hundreds of volunteers under the oversight of the AIDS Services Center Coalition, Inc., a local, not-for-profit organization dedicated to AIDS services and education.
Set against an elegant atmosphere tastefully envisioned by the partnership of Jude Loew and The Event Company, the sophisticated potluck included overflowing chocolate fountains, cakes, tortes, petite forts and exotic cocoa creations.
Unquestionably, the live performances were the highlight of the evening: selections from Glee by Voices of Kentuckiana; selections from the Rocky Horror Picture Show by Pandora Productions; and the impromptu flash mob by the Louisville Ballet. In between the dancing and tastings, guests were treated to an array of silent auction items, including seven vacation packages and a Kathy Griffin performance package, which gave the lucky recipients an opportunity to meet the D-List star!
Sponsored by Horseshoe Casino and Hotel and contributing $10,000 to the total of funds raised, the tenth installment of the wildly popular desert showcase boasted an $11,000 increase over last year’s event. Over the last six years, more than $137,000 was raised. For more information, please visit louisvilleaidswalk.org.
