Former President William Jefferson Clinton served as the keynote speaker for the Lexington Hearing & Speech Center’s 50th anniversary celebration. The event was hosted in Nicholasville at R.J. Corman Railroad Company, an airplane hangar that was transformed into an elegant party spot for dignitaries.
In attendance were LHSC founder William Austin, former University of Kentucky basketball coach Joe B. Hall, and World Series of Poker Champion Phil Helmuth.
Featured musical performers included Jordan English, who played acoustic versions of familiar pop songs, and violinist Brianna Kahane and LHSC’s Children’s Choir. Kassie DePavia, who portrays Blair Cramer on ABC’s “One Life to Live,” and her son James Quentin discussed the difference the hearing center has made in their lives.
Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo introduced the former president. Clinton spoke of his advocacy and activism for those less fortunate, his own charitable initiatives and those of others all around the world. On a personal note, he spoke of his own hearing loss and great friendship with LHSC. Clinton’s appearance coincided with the center’s fundraising initiative that could increase its ability to assist children with hearing and speech challenges.
A sound partnership, indeed.
